KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli has reaffirmed the provincial government’s commitment to collaborate with stakeholders to safeguard and strengthen the Ingonyama Trust. This follows the recent announcement by Minister of Land Reform and Rural Development Mzwanele Nyhontso on the dissolution of the Ingonyama Trust Board. Rural communities in KwaZulu-Natal, along with stakeholders including His Majesty the King and national government, stand to be affected. The move, reported on March 23, 2026, raises questions about land management and economic opportunities in rural areas (SAnews.gov.za).

The minister’s decision came after consultations with His Majesty the King, the sole trustee of the Trust, and Premier Ntuli. Ntuli confirmed he took part in these talks. He stressed the Trust’s key role in the rural economy, land management, infrastructure development, and economic growth.

“The Ingonyama Trust remains central to the socio-economic development of our rural communities,” Ntuli said. He linked it to the 7th Administration’s goals for inclusive growth, poverty reduction, and sustainable livelihoods (SAnews.gov.za).
