Are you a researcher in Eastern or Central Africa interested in virus outbreaks? The ViGOR Research Fellowships 2026 offer a chance to build skills in virus genomics or outbreak modeling. This program supports early-career experts to tackle public health challenges with funding and training.

What is the ViGOR Consortium?

The ViGOR project stands for Virus Genomics for Outbreak Response in Central/East Africa. It receives funding from the NIHR Global Health Research Project. Partners include the University of Warwick’s Mathematics Department in the UK, KEMRI-Wellcome Trust Research Programme in Kenya, KEMRI-Centre for Virus Research in Kenya, Institut National de Recherche Biomédicale in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Institut National de Recherche pour l’Agriculture, la Pêche et l’Environnement in Comoros.

The main goal is to improve public health systems in the region. It does this by providing better access to genomics, bioinformatics, and outbreak modeling tools during virus outbreaks. Fellows gain skills to lead research and respond to viral threats on the African continent.
