Are you a recent graduate looking to kickstart your career in conservation and national parks? The SANParks Internship Programme 2026 offers a great chance for unemployed South African youth to gain hands-on experience. South African National Parks (SANParks) manages over 3.7 million hectares of protected land across 20 national parks, and this program places interns in key departments.

Internship Overview

This 24-month program provides real-world skills without leading to guaranteed permanent jobs. Interns receive a monthly stipend of R6,335.69. The closing date for applications is 22 April 2026, and placements are at various SANParks offices across South Africa.

Fields of Study and Placement Areas

You need a National Diploma at NQF Level 6 in a relevant field. Here are the main areas:

Tourism and Marketing

Fields include Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Finance, or Accounting.

Wild Card / CRM and Loyalty

Study Tourism Management, Business Administration, Marketing, or Communications.

Socio Economic Transformation – Kruger National Park

Focus on Administration.

Socio Economic Transformation – Knysna, George, Plettenberg Bay and Port Elizabeth

Options are Business Management, Economics, Supply Chain Management, or related fields.

Communications

Qualify with Information Science, Graphic Design, Visual Communication, Marketing, Communications, Events Management, Hospitality, or Public Relations.

ICT

Degrees in Information Technology, Computer Science, Web Development, or equivalent work.

Finance

Accounting is the key field.

Socio Economic Transformation – Groenkloof

Choose Environmental Education, Natural Sciences, or Social Sciences.

Socio Economic Transformation – Port Elizabeth

Fields like Social Sciences (Anthropology, Sociology, Community Development, Environmental Management, Public Administration, Development Studies, Heritage Studies).

Legal Services

An LLB is required.

Minimum Requirements

To apply, you must be a South African citizen aged 18 to 35. You need to have completed your National Diploma from a recognized South African institution and be currently unemployed. You cannot have done another internship program before.

Required Documents

Prepare these items: an updated CV, certified copy of your ID, certified copy of your Matric certificate, and your academic qualifications with transcripts.

Important Notes

Submit applications online and by email. Incomplete ones get rejected. If placed outside your area, handle your own accommodation and transport. Foreign qualifications need SAQA evaluation. Only shortlisted candidates hear back, and SANParks may not fill all spots.
