Are you a recent graduate looking for real-world experience in mining, petroleum, or related fields? The Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources (DMPR) offers a great chance through its DMPR Internships 2026 program. This initiative targets unemployed South African graduates and runs from 2026/2027 to 2027/2028.

About the DMPR Internship Programme

The DMPR Internship Programme helps graduates gain skills and boost their job prospects. It focuses on workplace training in areas like mining, petroleum regulations, finance, and more. The department welcomes applications from people with disabilities and TVET College graduates. Note that interns must handle their own transport and accommodation. Positions are available in multiple locations across South Africa, including Pretoria, Braamfontein, Witbank, Polokwane, Welkom, Kimberley, Gqeberha, East London, Cape Town, Klerksdorp, Mafikeng, and Durban.

Internship Stipend and Duration

Interns receive a monthly stipend based on their qualifications. Those with a Diploma, Degree, or Honours get R7,860.50 per month. Master’s Degree holders receive R9,482.00 per month. The program lasts for the 2026/2027 and 2027/2028 financial years.

General Application Requirements

Before applying, check these key rules. Use the new Z83 form from 01 January 2021. Attach a full CV. Only shortlisted candidates submit certified copies of qualifications later. People who did a government internship before cannot apply. Students needing experiential training must include a letter from their college. Submit a separate Z83 and application for each post. Late or incomplete applications get rejected. The closing date is 08 May 2026.

  • Investment Promotion Internship (DMPR INTERN 01): Needs Bachelor of Commerce, BA in Economics, Finance, Investment Management, International Business, Business Management, or Public Policy Researcher.
  • Petroleum Compliance and Enforcement Internship (DMPR INTERN 02): Requires National Diploma in Legal Assistance, B Juris, B Proc, or LLB.
  • Mineral and Petroleum Titles Registration Internship (DMPR INTERN 03): Needs National Diploma or Degree in Public Administration, Management, Office Management and Technology, or Office Administration.
  • Petroleum Licensing and Fuel Supply Internship (DMPR INTERN 04 and 05): Requires National Diploma or Degree in Public Administration, Management, Office Management, Economics, Logistics, or Finance.
  • Fuel Pricing Mechanism Internship (DMPR INTERN 06): Needs National Diploma or Degree in Economics.
  • Office of the CFO Internship (DMPR INTERN 07): Requires National Diploma in Finance, Financial Accounting, or Financial Management.
  • Demand, Acquisition and Contract Management Internship (DMPR INTERN 08): Needs National Diploma in Logistics, Public Management, or Supply Chain Management.
  • Financial Accounting and Reporting Internship (DMPR INTERN 09): Requires National Diploma in Financial Accounting or Financial Management.
  • Management Accounting Internship (DMPR INTERN 10): Needs National Diploma in Management Accounting, Cost and Management Accounting, or Public Finance.

  • Mineral Laws Administration Internship (DMPR INTERN 15): Requires Bachelor of Laws or BA in Law.
  • Mineral Information Management Internship (DMPR INTERN 16): Needs National Diploma in GIS Geomatics or Environmental Management.

Mpumalanga: Witbank

  • Mine Economics Internship (DMPR INTERN 19): Needs National Diploma or Degree in Geology, Mine Survey, Mining Engineering, Economics, or Accounting.
  • Mineral Information Management Internship (DMPR INTERN 20): Requires Degree in Geographical Information System or Geography.
  • Mineral Laws Administration Internship (DMPR INTERN 21): Needs Bachelor of Laws (LLB).

  • Mine Environmental Management Internship (DMPR INTERN 30, Gqeberha): Needs National Diploma in Environmental Management or Sciences.

Western Cape: Cape Town

Apply online via the DMPR E-Recruitment System. Create a profile first and fill in all details. You can also post or courier to: The Director-General, Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources, Private Bag X59, Pretoria 0001. Or hand-deliver to Trevenna Campus, Corner Meintjies and Francis Baard Street, Pretoria.

Required Documents

Submit a completed Z83 form, detailed CV, and a letter from your institution if it’s for experiential training. Shortlisted applicants provide certified copies later.
