Gauteng Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Internship Programme 2026

The Gauteng Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (GDARD) is offering a valuable opportunity for unemployed South African graduates to gain practical experience through its Internship Programme for 2026-2028. This 24-month program is designed to provide structured workplace exposure and professional development, equipping participants with skills relevant to their fields of study within the public sector. Applications are open until May 29, 2026, for positions based in Johannesburg, Pretoria, and Germiston.

About the Internship Programme

This initiative by GDARD aims to bridge the gap between academic learning and professional practice. Graduates will work alongside experienced professionals, contributing to departmental projects and activities. The program focuses on hands-on training and capacity building, offering a stipend of R8,174.75 per month. It’s a chance for young professionals to build a foundation for their careers in public service.

Financial Management Internship (X2 Posts)

  • Required Qualification: Diploma/Degree in Financial Management or Accounting Science. These roles will involve assisting the finance department with various tasks and learning about public sector financial operations.

Rural Development Internship (X1 Post)

  • Required Qualification: Diploma/Degree in Developmental Studies or a related field. This internship will focus on projects and initiatives aimed at improving rural communities.

Duties and Responsibilities

Interns will be involved in a variety of activities designed to provide a well-rounded learning experience. Key responsibilities include receiving structured workplace exposure and training, participating actively in departmental projects, and assisting experienced professionals. They will also engage in capacity-building initiatives and gain practical experience directly related to their academic qualifications and assigned departments.

General Requirements for Applicants

To be eligible for the GDARD Internship Programme, applicants must meet several criteria. They must be unemployed South African graduates who hold a completed National Diploma, Bachelor’s Degree, or Honour’s Degree. Importantly, candidates must not have participated in a Public Service internship program before. All qualifications must be from accredited higher learning institutions. GDARD also aims to promote representativity, giving preference to candidates whose appointment would enhance diversity in terms of race, gender, and disability.

Submitting a complete and accurate application is essential. Applications must be made using the new Z83 application form. Along with the completed Z83 form, applicants need to include a detailed Curriculum Vitae (CV). All application documents should be submitted as a single PDF attachment. It is critical to quote the relevant reference number for the desired internship in the email subject line. Please note that JPEG or picture format applications will not be accepted, and certified copies of qualifications are not required at this stage; only shortlisted candidates will be asked to provide them.
