Human Resources Intern

This is a one-year fixed-term contract, offering a monthly stipend of R10,000. The role is intended to provide a comprehensive understanding of the Human Resources Section’s functions within a local government setting.

Minimum Requirements for HR Intern:

  • A Degree or National Diploma in Human Resources.
  • A certified copy of your academic record with results.
  • Proficiency in at least two of the three official languages of the Western Cape (communication and writing skills).
  • Computer literacy.
  • Age between 21 and 35 years old.
  • Must be a resident of the Laingsburg area.

Financial Management Intern

Two positions are available for Financial Management Interns within the Finance and Compliance Services Department. These roles offer a remuneration of R100,000 per annum, with no additional benefits or allowances. This internship is structured to provide practical exposure to financial procedures and reporting within the municipality.

Requirements for Financial Management Intern:

  • A BCom Degree, National Diploma, or equivalent qualification, preferably with a major in Accounting.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills in Afrikaans and English.
  • Computer literacy, including knowledge of Microsoft Office Word and Excel applications.

Internship Responsibilities and Duties

Successful candidates in both internship programs will be involved in various tasks that contribute to the daily operations of their respective departments. These responsibilities are designed to offer broad exposure and practical skill development.

Human Resources Section Duties:

The Human Resources Intern will gain experience in all aspects of the HR Section’s work. This could include assisting with recruitment processes, managing employee records, supporting training and development initiatives, and understanding labor relations within the municipal context. The goal is to equip the intern with a well-rounded understanding of HR functions in local government.

Finance and Compliance Services Duties:

Financial Management Interns will play a role in ensuring adherence to GRAP (Generally Recognized Accounting Practice) principles and budget procedures. Their duties will include assisting in the development of statistical reporting modules, financial policies, and financial statements. They will also support the compilation of budgets, financial statements, and management reports. Other responsibilities involve financial data reconciliation, financial analysis, electronic data capturing, and general financial administration. Interns may also have the opportunity to rotate through different departments to gain a wider perspective.
