The internship is set to run for 18 months, with a stipend of R96,000 per annum. Applications are open until May 26, 2026, and the position is located in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal.

RAF Internship Programme Overview

The RAF Internship Programme is designed to support youth skills development by offering practical experience to recent graduates. This specific internship, within the Office of the Regional General Manager (RGM), will expose successful candidates to a range of administrative tasks and stakeholder management duties. It’s an 18-month contract, providing a solid foundation for a career in office administration and management. The role is also targeted for individuals with disabilities, aligning with the RAF’s Employment Equity goals.

Minimum Requirements for Applicants

To be considered for the RAF Office of the RGM Internship, candidates must meet several key criteria. They need to possess a National Qualification Framework (NQF) Level 6 Diploma in one of the following fields: Office Management, Administration, or Information and Corporate Management. Additionally, applicants must provide a certified copy of their South African ID, a certified copy of their academic transcript, an updated Curriculum Vitae (CV), and a motivational letter. These documents are essential for the application process.

Duties and Responsibilities of the Intern

The successful intern will be involved in a variety of tasks that contribute to the smooth operation of the RGM’s office. These duties include maintaining and updating document registers, handling and following up on stakeholder queries, and performing general office administration. Filing, data capturing, and diary management will also be part of the role. The intern will assist in organizing meetings and appointments, drafting and proofreading correspondence like emails and memos, and screening calls. Furthermore, they will help prepare reports and presentations, manage filing systems, and assist with travel arrangements. Taking meeting minutes and supporting small projects and events are also expected responsibilities, along with managing office supplies and inventory.

Required Skills and Competencies

Beyond the academic qualifications, candidates are expected to demonstrate specific skills and competencies. Good organizational skills are paramount for managing various administrative tasks effectively. Strong written and verbal communication skills are necessary for interacting with stakeholders and drafting professional documents. Applicants should also exhibit professional office etiquette, understanding the importance of conduct in a corporate environment. The ability to maintain confidentiality is also a critical requirement, given the nature of the information handled within the RGM’s office.

Important Application Instructions

Prospective applicants must adhere to specific instructions when submitting their applications. A short CV and a motivational letter, not exceeding three pages in total, should be submitted. Applications will not be considered if they lack academic transcripts. Candidates are limited to applying for a maximum of three positions. Crucially, applicants must be unemployed, have no prior work experience in the relevant field, and must not have participated in a similar internship program before. The RAF will only consider the first 100 applications received. A security vetting process will also be conducted for all successful candidates.
