The Council for Geoscience is offering three Human Resources internships for 2026. These positions give South African graduates a chance to gain real-world experience in HR. The program runs for 24 months in Pretoria and pays R13,000 per month.
Internship Overview
The Council for Geoscience (CGS) runs this fixed-term internship at their Pretoria Head Office. It targets unemployed graduates who want to work in HR administration, recruitment, employee relations, and training. You report to the HR Manager and get hands-on tasks in a public sector setting.
Key Responsibilities
Interns handle a range of duties across HR areas.
Recruitment Support
You screen job applications and schedule interviews. You also prepare recruitment packs, help with onboarding, and do pre-employment checks. This builds skills in finding the right talent.
HR Administration
Support payroll and benefits processes. Keep HR records and databases up to date, file documents, and set up meetings or events. These tasks keep the HR office running smoothly.
Learning & Development
Help run training programs and employee growth plans. You assist in setting up sessions that improve staff skills. This area focuses on building better teams.
Employee Relations
Deal with HR issues for employees and support workplace events. You help create positive work environments. Good relations lead to happier staff.
Project Support
Work on special HR projects like wellness or performance reviews. These give you broad exposure to HR planning. You learn to manage bigger initiatives.
Quality Assurance
Check that all work follows company policies and standards. Use ISO guidelines and best practices. This ensures everything stays legal and effective.
Minimum Requirements
You need a Grade 12 certificate. A National Diploma at NQF Level 6 in Human Resources Management, Human Resources Development, or a related field is required. No work experience is needed.
Knowledge Requirements
Know the basics of key laws: Basic Conditions of Employment Act (BCEA), Labour Relations Act (LRA), Employment Equity Act (EEA), and Skills Development Act (SDA). These help you understand worker rights and duties.
Required Skills and Attributes
Show strong organization and the ability to meet deadlines. Have good communication, analytical thinking, and attention to detail. Be computer literate with MS Office and have solid interpersonal skills. A willingness to learn is key.
