What Does the Program Fund?

This initiative links to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, like health, education, climate action, governance, social inclusion, and innovation. Projects must connect to at least one SDG and show clear benefits for development.

It has two main tracks:

Programme Line 1: Preparatory and Cooperation Visits
These fund 1- to 2-month stays at German universities or research institutes. The goal is to spot joint research ideas, plan publications, seek funding, and start networks with strong development impact.

Programme Line 2: Research Stays
These cover 2- to 6-month stays for your own research project. It needs high development relevance and a plan to apply results back home. Work with a German host supervisor, and add prep or cooperation if needed.

Note that travel for conferences or talks is not covered in either line.

All funded periods start in 2026 and end by January 31, 2027. No extensions are possible.
