The Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (the dtic) Internships 2026 offer a great chance for South African graduates to gain real-world experience. This 24-month program runs from July 1, 2026, to June 30, 2028, in Sunnyside, Pretoria. It helps young people build skills for jobs in government and other sectors while supporting South Africa’s economy.
Internship Overview
The dtic invites unemployed graduates with a tertiary qualification to join this program. It provides hands-on work in government systems. Participants will learn practical skills and contribute to a competitive economy. The closing date for applications is May 6, 2026.
Monthly Stipend
Interns receive a monthly stipend of R7,860.50. This amount may change based on the highest qualification held at the time of appointment. The stipend supports participants during the full 24 months.

Candidates need a qualification at NQF Level 6 or higher in one of these areas:
- Public Management or Public Administration
- Business Management or Business Administration
- Human Resource Management or Development
- Communication or Public Relations
- Law
- Software Development
- Economics
- Statistics or Econometrics
- Agricultural Economics or Forestry Science
- Development Studies
- Accounting, Financial Management, or Cost and Management Accounting
- Risk Management
- Internal Auditing or Auditing
- Natural Sciences like Microbiology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, or Bioengineering
- Mining Engineering or Metallurgy Commerce
- Occupational Health and Safety
- Supply Chain Management or Procurement
- International Politics
Minimum Requirements

- Be an unemployed South African graduate.
- Hold a qualification at NQF Level 6 or above.
- Have strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Show professionalism and integrity.
- Be analytical with good attention to detail.
- Work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Willing to learn government systems and processes.

Important Application Notes
Include a completed and signed Z83 form plus a detailed CV with your final year modules. Do not send certified documents at first; only shortlisted candidates need them. Late or incomplete applications will not count. Foreign qualifications require evaluation by SAQA. If no feedback comes in 3 months, assume your application did not succeed.
