Internship Overview
The Electoral Commission of South Africa runs this internship to support its work as a Chapter 9 constitutional institution. It focuses on civic education and research within the Outreach department. Two posts are available for Intern – Civic Education & Research.
The program lasts 24 months and pays a monthly stipend of R10 144.04. It targets South African graduates who are unemployed and under 35 years old. Applications close on 21 April 2026.
Key Responsibilities
Interns will handle everyday tasks to support the team. This includes general administrative duties for civic education and research projects. They will help manage the Outreach Management System (OMS) and assist with stakeholder coordination.
Other duties cover compiling documents, distributing them to partners, and preparing reports or presentations. Interns take minutes at meetings, maintain filing systems, and handle correspondence. They also coordinate outreach activities, support research logistics, and manage office functions.
Minimum Requirements
To qualify, you need a Matric certificate, Grade 12, N3, or NTC Level 4. A Bachelor’s Degree or National Diploma in Public Administration or Political Sciences is required. You must be 35 or younger, unemployed, and have no prior work in your field of study or previous internships.
Applicants cannot have a high political party profile. The IEC prefers people with disabilities. All candidates face risk assessments, including checks on qualifications, criminal records, and credit history.
Required Skills
Good written and verbal communication skills are essential. You need computer literacy, especially with Microsoft Office. The ability to learn new systems quickly helps a lot.
Strong time management and organizational skills are key. Interns should work well alone or in a team and show professionalism with solid interpersonal skills.
