John Thompson Apprenticeships 2026 offer a great chance for young South Africans to start a career in boilermaking and welding. Program Overview

The John Thompson Apprenticeships 2026 will train up to 20 people in Bellville, Western Cape. No work experience is needed, as full training is provided. You will get hands-on skills to become a qualified artisan in boilermaking and welding.

Successful applicants start with a three-month trial as unskilled workers. They face psychometric tests and evaluations. Only those who pass move on to the full apprenticeship.

Who Can Apply

You must be between 18 and 35 years old and live in the Western Cape. A medical check confirms you are fit for the trade. Show real interest in engineering too.

Qualified artisans or those with skills in electrical, diesel, or fitting and turning cannot apply.

Education Requirements

Meet one of these options:

  • Grade 12 Technical with Metal Work, Welder’s Theory, Technical Mathematics (not Maths Literacy), and Technical Science.
  • Grade 12 Academic with Mathematics (not Maths Literacy) and Physical Science.
  • N2 Trade Theory in subjects like Platers Theory or Welder’s Theory, Engineering Science, and Platers Drawing.
  • NCV Level 4 in Fabrication (no Maths Literacy).

Application Documents

Prepare these items:

  • A cover letter that names the position.
  • A CV no longer than four pages.
  • Certified copies of your school results and certificates.

Applications without certificates get rejected. Keep your CV to four pages max.
