Who Should Apply

Apply if you study civil engineering with a transport focus, logistics or transport management, transport economics, or road safety engineering. Postgraduate students planning advanced research in infrastructure are especially welcome.

Minimum Requirements

Requirements depend on your study level.

For Diploma Students

You must have passed Semester 1.

For Degree Students

You need to have passed your first year.

For Postgraduate Students

Preference goes to those in MSc, MTech, or advanced research programmes.

Institution Requirements

You must attend a recognised South African institution. Your school needs to endorse your application with proof of enrolment, your academic record, and confirmation that your programme fits.

What the Funding Covers

This is a partial or supplementary bursary. The amount varies for each student and is set by the SARF Council. Funds go straight to your institution to help with study costs. You can pair it with other aid like NSFAS, university bursaries, SETA funding, or employer support.

Selection Preferences

SARF prioritizes students with strong grades, plans to work in transport, ties to SARF member groups, and a clear interest in infrastructure growth. South African residents get first pick, but students from SADC countries can apply too.

Key Commitment Needed

You must agree to work in South Africa’s road transport sector after your studies.
