Fields of Study

Sasol funds specific degrees that match their business needs. Check if your planned course fits before applying.

Undergraduate BEng or BSc Degrees

These options go up to Honours level in some cases:

  • Chemical Engineering
  • Civil Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Electronic Engineering
  • Industrial Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Mining Engineering
  • Metallurgical Engineering
  • Chemistry
  • Geology
  • Data Science, which includes Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or Operations Research

Undergraduate BEng Tech

This is only at universities of technology:

  • Mine Surveying

Postgraduate Degrees

For MSc, MEng, or PhD levels:

  • Chemical Engineering, with focus areas like Fluid Dynamics, Thermodynamics, or Process Modelling
  • Chemistry, including Catalysis, Polymer Science, Environmental Science, or Analytical Chemistry
  • Cyber Security
  • Data Science, such as Applied Mathematics or Statistics

Minimum Requirements

You must meet these basics to apply for Sasol Mainstream Bursaries 2027:

  • South African citizen
  • Under 30 years old
  • Planning full-time study at a recognised university
  • Strong grades in school or university

Maths is required, but not Maths Literacy. Only degree programmes count, no diplomas. Distance learning like UNISA does not qualify.

Required Documents

  • Your latest academic results, such as Grade 11 or your most recent transcripts
  • Certified copy of your ID document
  • Any other documents the portal asks for

Make sure copies are clear and certified to avoid problems.
