About the NARYSEC Programme

The National Rural Youth Service Corps (NARYSEC) helps young people in rural areas gain skills through training and community work. It supports the National Development Plan Vision 2030 by building skilled workers, boosting economic roles, and backing youth projects. If selected, you start with a 9-week induction and leadership program, then move to hands-on training and service.

  • Firefighter Trainee: Learn to handle fires, rescues, and emergencies to protect lives and property.
  • Traffic Officer Trainee: Get skills in road safety, traffic control, and law enforcement on the roads.

Both paths prepare you for real jobs while helping your local area.

Who Can Apply: Minimum Requirements

To qualify, meet these basic standards:

  • Age 18 to 35 years.
  • Grade 12 certificate or NQF Level 4.
  • Live in Johannes Phumani Phungula Local Municipality, any ward.
  • Unemployed and not in school.
  • No criminal record.
  • Medically fit, with a physical check.
  • Valid driver’s licence (Code B needed for Traffic Officer).
  • At least 40% pass in English and Mathematics Literacy.
  • Ready to train away from home.

Grade 12 holders get first pick, even if you have higher qualifications.

Documents You Need

Gather these items for your application:

  • Certified copy of your South African ID.
  • Proof of residence from a Traditional Council or Municipal Councillor.
  • Grade 12 certificate or results statement.
  • Updated CV with two contactable references.
  • Signed application form.

Keep copies for yourself and check everything is certified.

Steps to Apply

Application forms are at Johannes Phumani Phungula Local Municipality, 29 Margaret Street, Ixopo, 3276 (Reception). Fill it out and drop the full package, with all documents attached, into the physical application box there. No emails or online options.
