Are you a young seafarer looking for hands-on experience in maritime safety? The SAMSA Work Integrated Learning (WIL) Programme 2026 offers a great chance for unemployed qualified individuals to gain practical skills. This 24-month program, run by the Department of Transport and the South African Maritime Safety Authority, focuses on small vessel operations and safety inspections.

About the SAMSA WIL Programme 2026

The Maritime Training Programme provides real-world training under experienced mentors. Participants learn about vessel inspections, compliance checks, and safety operations. It helps build skills for careers in the maritime field, though it does not promise a full-time job at the end.

Programme Duration and Stipend

The program lasts 24 months on a fixed-term contract. Trainees receive a monthly stipend of R10 000. This support covers basic needs while you focus on learning.
