Minimum Qualifications for Planning Graduates

To be eligible for these positions, applicants must hold one of the following qualifications:

  • B.Tech in Town and Regional Planning: This qualification provides a strong technical foundation in planning principles and practices.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Town and Regional Planning: This degree offers a comprehensive understanding of planning theory and its application.

General Minimum Requirements for All Applicants

Beyond specific qualifications, all candidates must meet several general criteria to be considered for the ISDG Graduates Programme:

  • Unemployed Status: Applicants must be currently unemployed.
  • South African Citizenship: A valid South African ID is required.
  • Age Limit: Candidates must be under 35 years of age.
  • Driver’s Licence: A valid Code 08 driver’s licence is considered an advantage, suggesting potential fieldwork responsibilities.

Appointments will be made in accordance with the Employment Equity principles, ensuring fair representation.

Responsibilities of Successful Candidates

Selected graduates will be involved in a range of critical tasks, providing them with broad exposure to municipal planning functions. These responsibilities include:

  • Design of Layout Plans: Assisting in the creation of site and development layouts.
  • Conducting Site Inspections: Participating in on-site assessments to monitor progress and compliance.
  • Project Management: Supporting project managers in overseeing various infrastructure initiatives.
  • Assessment of Plans: Reviewing building plans and site development plans for adherence to regulations.
  • Processing Applications: Handling land development applications, including rezoning, subdivision, and consolidation processes.
  • Township Establishment: Contributing to the establishment of new townships.
  • Issuing Certificates: Assisting in the issuance of zoning certificates.
