The PhD Scholarship Position

This PhD scholarship in Sociology is offered through the Brussels Institute for Social and Population Studies within the Department of Sociology. As the program is taught in Dutch, strong Dutch language proficiency is required from the start of the appointment.

Scholarship Duration and Funding

The scholarship provides full-time funding for the PhD studies. The initial appointment is for 12 months, with possibilities for extension up to 48 months based on positive evaluations. Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualifications

Applicants must possess a Master’s degree in Sociology, Statistics, Demography, Economics, Data Science, Political Science, Communication Science, Computational Social Science, or a related social science field.

Language Requirements

Excellent proficiency in both Dutch and English is required. Candidates must be comfortable teaching in Dutch and conducting academic communication and writing in both Dutch and English.

Research Skills

A strong quantitative mindset, an interest in statistical analysis, curiosity about AI and society, and motivation for scientific research are essential. While prior research experience is an advantage, it is not mandatory.

Additional Conditions

Candidates must not have held an assistant mandate funded by operational resources for more than 12 cumulative months. Non-EEA nationals must meet Belgian residence and permit requirements.
